Jarryd alcorn

Pastor

As a pastor, Jarryd is passionate about teaching the Bible and  seeing God’s people strengthened in their faith and being equipped to play their part in the life of the church and in fulfilling the Great Commission. Jarryd grew up in Anglican and then Baptist churches before finding a home at Calvary Wellington in his late teens where he was drawn to the teaching of God’s Word. Jarryd considers it a privilege to now pastor the church he has grown up in. Jarryd comes from a musical family and leads worship on occasion playing guitar and singing. Jarryd met his wife Katie while studying at Calvary Chapel Bible Institute and together they have three young children. Interests include discussing theology, sports – particularly cricket and rugby – and pottering in the garden. Prior to becoming a pastor Jarryd studied at Victoria University completing a BA / LLB with majors in History and Classics. Jarryd has worked as an employment lawyer and in various employment relations roles primarily for Wellington-based government departments.

greg brown

Elder & Worship Leader

Greg grew up in a Christian family in the north-east of England, and was involved in music ministry from a relatively young age. He joined Calvary Wellington after emigrating from the UK in 2011, and took on leading the music ministry the following year.  In 2019 he was asked to join the Eldership team, a position he was honoured to accept.  Greg leads worship most weeks from either the guitar or the piano, and occasionally teaches.  Since a substantial part of the theological diet of a church comes from its songs, he believes sung worship should be thoughtfully planned, undistractingly executed, and firmly Christ-centred.  Greg has been married to Julie for over 20 years, and they have three children.  He works as a medical doctor in the Hutt Valley, drinks a lot of black coffee, and enjoys lifting weights.

Chee Kai and Peck Choo have been part of our Calvary family for many years and have a heart for serving in the church. Chee Kai heads up our Sunday Set-Up Team and Peck Choo leads our Hospitality Ministry. Together they host our Lower Hutt Life Group in their home. Chee Kai and Peck Choo have been a part of Life Groups for many years and see this as an essential part of church life. Life Groups provide a great opportunity to build more meaningful relationships with one another through sharing, caring, encouragement, praying studying and discussing God's Word. The informal and relaxed Life Group atmosphere also provides a good environment to invite unchurched friends. Originally from Malaysia and Singapore, Chee Kai and Peck Choo both work in Wellington and have three adult children.

Josh Fricke

Youth and Children's Ministry Leader

Josh had previously been serving at Calvary Chapel Bozeman Montana in the United States for several years before attending Calvary Chapel Bible Institute New Zealand (CCBI) in early 2019. Sensing the Lord calling to serve Him in New Zealand, he moved to Wellington at the end of 2020 after graduating the CCBI internship and is serving as our Youth and Children’s Ministry leader. Josh has a heart to impact the youth of New Zealand with the truth of the Gospel through the teaching of God's Word and to see them whole heartedly follow Jesus as dedicated disciples. Josh met his wife Meliagi as they were both serving at a youth discipleship programme in 2020. She now serves alongside Josh in our Refuge Youth Group.
