Jarryd alcorn

Pastor

As a pastor, Jarryd is passionate about teaching the Bible and  seeing God’s people strengthened in their faith and being equipped to play their part in the life of the church and in fulfilling the Great Commission. Jarryd grew up in Anglican and then Baptist churches before finding a home at Calvary Wellington in his late teens where he was drawn to the teaching of God’s Word. Jarryd considers it a privilege to now pastor the church he has grown up in. Jarryd comes from a musical family and leads worship on occasion playing guitar and singing. Jarryd met his wife Katie while studying at Calvary Chapel Bible Institute and together they have four young children. Interests include discussing theology, sports – particularly cricket and rugby – and pottering in the garden. Prior to becoming a pastor Jarryd studied at Victoria University completing a BA / LLB with majors in History and Classics. Jarryd has worked as an employment lawyer and in various employment relations roles primarily for Wellington-based government departments.

greg brown

Elder & Worship Leader

Greg hails from northern England and has been a member of Calvary Wellington since moving to NZ in 2011.  The following year he took on leading Calvary’s music ministry, and joined the Eldership in 2019.  Greg teaches a few times a year and leads worship most weeks from either the guitar or the piano.  A church’s songs usually reflect its theology, and Greg’s primary concern is to ensure that Calvary’s musical canon is Christ-centred, focused on God’s worth and works (not our feelings), and liturgically comprehensive.  He embraces modern hymn-writers who share this vision, and has written a few songs himself, while firmly guarding against the less Biblically-grounded trends in much of modern worship music.  If you’re looking for Hillsong and Bethel, you’ve come to the wrong place.  Greg has been married to Julie for over 25 years, and they have three teenagers (plus an evil ginger cat and an expanding flock of chickens).  He works as a medical doctor, has served in the NZ Navy (where he led worship on a warship on deployment), and randomly also has a History degree.  Greg loves black coffee, his Martin guitar, and lifting weights.
